Internet Browser Plugins

The only plug-in required to use eCampus is Java. However, other plug-ins may be required to view certain content items displayed in eCampus. All of these tools are downloadable through their corresponding icon.

Adobe Flash Player

Adobe Flash Player is a software package used for delivering rich web content: designs, animation, and application user interfaces are deployed immediately across all browsers and platforms. Many of the activities used by WVU eCampus instructors are based in Flash.

Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader software is the global standard for electronic document sharing. It is the only PDF file viewer that can open and interact with all PDF documents. Use Adobe Reader to view, search, digitally sign, verify, print, and collaborate on PDF files.

Adobe Shockwave

Adobe Shockwave is a multimedia platform used to add animation and interactivity to web pages. It publishes Adobe Director applications for viewing on the Internet via any web browser with the Shockwave plug-in installed.


Java is an inter-platform programming language. WVU eCampus and many of the tools used with it are partially written in Java. The Java Runtime Environment is required for your computer to interact properly with WVU eCampus. The latest version of Java can be found here. Users with 64-bit operating systems need to install the 64-bit version of Java 7.

Microsoft Silverlight

Silverlight is a powerful development tool for creating engaging, interactive user experiences for Web and mobile applications. Silverlight is a free plug-in, powered by the .NET framework and compatible with multiple browsers, devices and operating systems, bringing a new level of interactivity wherever the Web works.
